Linux, BSD, Unix etc. - Jaunty Jackalope on Peg 2 rmais96 - Nov 04, 2009 - 06:25 Post subject: Jaunty Jackalope on Peg 2
Hi,
There is an "install from cd" kernel of Ubuntu 9.04 at http://genesi.hu/ubuntu , but I failed to use it on my Pegasos II.
My peg boots correctly with this kernel, but after the hard disks and CD readers detection, nothing happens. The kernel doesn't try to access the inserted CD with powerpc alternate or desktop iso.
I also noticed that the install kernel (pegcdinst904) need a root partition at boot, else it fails complaining about this missing root parameter. Is it wrong or root parameter should be required only for a boot kernel and not for an install kernel ?
Does anybody success to use this install kernel with a Pegasos II ?
Thanks for any help.

I'm sorry, but since Ubuntu has dropped PowerPC support I doubt
many Pegasos-users are still trying to get it to work.
Did you try to ask CzP on PowerDeveloper.org? He's hosting the kernel.

Up to now, even if Canonical has dropped PowerPC support for Ubuntu, we still find CD releases for this processor family.
Ok, for support from CzP, there is this thread :

I would suggest Gentoo, works nicely on Pegasos and if you want to increase to compile power you can use sys-devel/distcc to use your other machines CPU while you compile. Gentoo still supports PPC and PegasosII.
